Council needs qualified candidates

Dear editor, Now that Airdrie has three aldermen that are not seeking re-election and three who are, we will have what looks like an interesting September and October of campaigning.

Dear editor, Now that Airdrie has three aldermen that are not seeking re-election and three who are, we will have what looks like an interesting September and October of campaigning.

We must watch for people that are truly interested in the future of Airdrie and are able to take the reins from the present council and move forward to building on the good work that has been done by past councils and City staff.

We must also be weary of the candidates that are running on one issue only and those who are in it for personal gain.

I’m sure we will all get to know those people as the campaigns get closer to Oct. 18.

At minimum the first year, if not the first term, will have a steep learning curve for the new City council.

But as always, I have faith in the citizens of Airdrie that they will elect the proper individuals to represent and be our advocates to the province.

I applaud anyone that runs this year for council or school trustees because it is a huge commitment of time and responsibility to uphold.

Darrell Belyk, Airdrie
