City should do something about RVs

Re: “Stiffer RV parking rules needed in Cooper’s Crossing”

Dear Editor,

I completely agree that the City of Airdrie needs to re-evaluate the residential regulations related to restricting storage of RVs on driveways for extended periods of time. This problem however, is not only unique to Cooper’s Crossing. I live in King’s Heights, and it is a problem in my community, also.

I agree that in addition to the aesthetic issue of being an “eyesore,” RVs being stored on residential driveways also poses a safety issue of obstructing the view of oncoming traffic on the street.

When I enquired with the City of Airdrie bylaw department about this issue, I was advised that they encourage people to store RVs on residential driveways (rather than the residential street). Why are they not encouraging people to use the available Commercial Storage facilities? Driveways and streets are not the appropriate place to be storing these large items.

I don’t understand why our bylaws in Airdrie are not comparable with other cities.

Storing a large RV on a residential driveway in Calgary is not permitted, why should it be allowed in Airdrie?

Carla Collins, Airdrie
