Carrying on the Airdrie tradition of athleticism

Dear Editor, I am truly inspired by all the athletic talent in Airdrie.

Dear Editor,

I am truly inspired by all the athletic talent in Airdrie.

It seems after the Winter Olympics, the majority of newspapers that have come out weekly have included either an individual or a team that has captured a division or provincial title in their chosen sports.

Being involved in physical activities for the past 30 years has given me an appreciation for the dedication that people have from all spans of life and have shown, from the weekend warriors and gym goers that step into the many gym facilities in the city to the people with a competitive edge who want to see themselves excel.

In talking with athletes of different sports in the past, I have found that they all have one thing in common, and that is positive thought. I hear things like: “I will do my best” or “I have fun in what I do.”

Here is my positive thought: “I will carry that Airdrie tradition onto the national stage this September long weekend in Winnipeg and I will have my hand raised in victory on obtaining my 7th national arm wrestling title in a row and my 14th National title over my 24 years in the sport.”

Thank you to all the Airdrie athletes both in the newspapers and not in the newspapers for inspiring me to carry on.

Darrell Belyk, Airdrie
