Advance polling problems

Dear Editor,

I was born six miles east of Airdrie, just off of the Yankee Valley Road, which my Mom Isobelle Nixdorf named.

I have lived in Alberta all of my life and currently live east of Airdrie, not far from where I was born.  The only time I have left Alberta was for a vacation.

I proceeded to the polling station to vote, thinking it would be and easy,  in-an-out process. I was wrong. They couldn’t find any record of me. I was not on the voters list, despite having voted in every election for 50-plus years. How could I not be on the voters list? The people at the voters booth were “stumped.”

I was ready to walk out and not vote, but my right to vote is important.

In the end, I had to sign a declaration to say who I was before being able to vote.

What is wrong with our government systems?
