An Irricana town councillor has resigned after nine months, alleging bullying and mismanagement. He is the third to resign since the October election.

After a successful inaugural event, the second annual Cars and Country Stars is set to take over northeast Rocky View County on July 23, inviting classic car collectors and country music lovers out for a night of family fun.

This year’s tour started on June 22, meaning the riders had already logged two weeks’ worth of cycling before they rolled into Irricana – an ideal pit stop that is roughly halfway across Alberta.

“Now that people see how beautiful it’s going to be, people are so anxious and eager to have the trail opened.”

The close the first season back after COVID-19, the IBSA soccer festival will see kids from U5 to U9 face off against each other in Irricana on June 18.

A member of Irricana's council officially resigned less than a month since the previous by-election, according to their Mayor, which means the town is preparing for another round of municipal campaigning.

Voting day was blighted by an altercation involving one of the candidates – an incident that has led to a Beiseker RCMP investigation and a restraining order being filed.

According to the detachment, the collision claimed the life of the motorcyclist, a 62-year-old man from Cochrane. 

Having driven the route for 55 years, Poffenroth, said it will be tough to say goodbye to a good crew of kids he currently has along his school bus route.

Jim Bryson will become Irricana’s fifth council member after winning 109 votes according to unofficial results from the Town of Irricana’s by-election on May 17.
