The Town of Irricana posted the unofficial results of the byelection to Facebook on Sept. 7, indicating Sim and Fleming led the way with 212 and 208 votes, respectively.

“I’ve known him for quite a few years and he was a very loving, caring, giving person,” Bryson said. “He would volunteer and help anyone at any time. He was just a great person.”

“To me, it’s an old building that would be part of the Badlands’ story and if I can keep that going, I’d like to keep the old building because there’s not a lot of them left,” he said.

The Town of Irricana is installing a new sewer system and pipeline this summer and fall, resulting in the closure of Sixth Street from First Avenue extending to Third Avenue while upgrades are underway.

Irricana voters had an opportunity to gauge the qualities and platforms of the three candidates running in the town's upcoming byelection at a question-and-answer forum earlier this week.

“It... became evident through the review process that problematic municipal culture relating specifically to governance has contributed to contra-visionary work at a significant scale within the Town of Irricana,” the review stated.

Although the recent high-school grad spends as much time in Calgary as he does in Irricana these days, Butler said it was a privilege to represent his rural hometown on the national stage in Niagara this month.

With just three members on council right now – the minimum needed to meet quorum – the town needs to fill two council positions. There are three individuals vying for the positions. 

Pioneer Acres, a museum located just outside Irricana, hosted its 52nd annual show Aug. 5 to 7, offering attendees a glimpse into rural life in the early 1900s.
