Irricana's byelection will be held May 17, after council decided upon that date at their April 4 meeting.

Irricana voters will be heading to the polls on May 17.

Irricana Town council confirmed the date for the upcoming byelection during their April 4 meeting. The byelection is to fill the vacancy left on council by the resignation of mayor Frank Friesen, who is moving to Beiseker with his husband. Living outside of Irricana disqualifies Friesen from holding a position on council.

According to a post on townofirricana.ca, advanced voting for the byelection will be held May 10.

The nomination period runs from April 5 to 19. Interested candidates can pick up their nomination package for the byelection by visiting the Town office at 222 2 Street or obtaining a digital copy from the municipality's website.

Those interested in running must be Irricana residents over the age of 18, and they must have lived in town for the last six months.

The polling station has not been confirmed as of press time, according to the Town's post.

An all-candidates forum has also not yet been confirmed.

Results of the May 17 vote will be made official on May 24, according to the Town.

Like the candidates, residents who are eligible to vote must have resided in Irricana for the last six months or longer.

The position of mayor will be appointed after the byelection by a vote among Irricana's council members.
