UPDATE: 62-year-old motorcyclist from Cochrane dies in collision with school bus near Irricana

According to the detachment, the collision claimed the life of the motorcyclist, a 62-year-old man from Cochrane.

UPDATE: 

Airdrie RCMP has issued an update on the fatal motor vehicle collision May 31 that involved a school bus and a motorcyclist. The collision occurred along Highway 567 and Range Road 270, near Irricana.

According to the detachment, the collision claimed the life of the motorcyclist, a 62-year-old man from Cochrane. 

"Investigation has revealed that both vehicles were west bound on Highway 567 when the bus slowed to make a left turn," RCMP stated. "The motorcycle attempted to pass the bus and collided with the front end of the bus."

The driver of the school bus and two students in the bus were not injured, according to RCMP.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased," the statement reads, adding no further information will be released.

Airdrie RCMP responded to a serious motor vehicle collision near Irricana involving a school bus and motorcycle this afternoon (May 31), which resulted in a fatality.

According to a press release from the detachment, the collision occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Highway 567/Township Road 270, southwest of Irricana.

"At least one person is deceased," stated the release, adding there were "No reported injuries from the occupants on the school bus."

An RCMP collision reconstructionist attended to the scene, according to the press release, and the road was closed for several hours afterward.
