The United Way-Chestermere Partnership dolled out more than $25,000 to three community organizations, June 22.

United Way’s Area Community Partnership program provides funding to local cities and towns, because many residents outside of Calgary donate to the organization.

“It gives the opportunity for residents of Chestermere to have their dollars stay in the community,” said United Way Area Community Partnership Chair Bob Thompson. “This opportunity allows organizations to put funding towards resolutions for any social issues or problems as the town grows.”

The Chestermere Resource Centre received $8,500, the Chestermere Mentorship Program received $11,800, and the Chestermere Food Bank was given $5,000

“We were able to match all the money they requested,” said Bill Peddlesden, chair of the investment committee. “In subsequent years, we will be doing some fundraising as well, so we hope that number will grow.”

Now that the first round of funds has been completed, Events and Promotions Co-chair Marilyn King hopes to see more organizations applying for funding.

“We only knew about three weeks ago that this was happening, we really hit the ground running,” said King. “Once the word has got out that there is some funding available through the United Way, we will be approached by more groups. There are a lot of community organizations who need that step up.”
