The SilverCity Cineplex theatre and XSCAPE Entertainment Centre will be opening at CrossIron Mills mall, June 30.

The centre will give moviegoers the chance to experience brand new technology, which will debut simultaneously only at CrossIron Mills mall and Queensway Cinemas in Ontario.

Ultra Audio Visual Experience (UltraAVX) theatres features a larger screen, Dolby digital surround sound, a projector that produces superior digital pictures, reserved seating and extra-wide, high back rocker seats.

“As the leader in out-of-home entertainment in Canada, Cineplex continues to enhance the entertainment experience with the launch of UltraAVX,” said Pat Marshall, vice president, communications and investor relations for Cineplex Entertainment.

“Each element of UltraAVX has been designed based on guest research as we wanted to build the kind of auditorium that our theatre guests would build if they were the designers and that’s what we have created in UltraAVX.”

In addition to this brand new technology, which will be added to seven other Cineplex theatres across the country by the end of 2010, SilverCity CrossIron Mills will have seven auditoriums, which will include standard and three RealD 3D capable projector systems.

Ticket prices for general admission are $12.75, while children ages three to 13 and seniors 65 plus will pay $8.99. There will be a $3 premium for UltraAVX and 3D films.

The XSCAPE Entertainment Centre is about 15,000 square feet with more than 80 video and interactive games, including Laser Maze - billed as the ultimate laser game.

Many of the games are rewarded with tickets, which can be redeemed for a wide variety of prizes ranging from small toys to the latest in technological gadgets.

The centre will also have a full-service licensed lounge and casual contemporary dining featuring wasabi chicken sliders, wraps, quesadillas and pizza, in addition to the traditional movie fare.

The theatre will also have party rooms and packages for corporate events and birthday parties.

Cineplex is expecting the new theatre to do well as it meets the needs of the growing population.

“We knew the greater Calgary area was under screened and we thought it would be a great place,” said Marshall, adding that Cineplex has worked with Cambridge Ivanhoe, the developers of CrossIron Mills mall, on other projects.

“In terms of talking to the residents, they are very excited to be so close to such a project,” said Marshall.

“It’s really been a good news story all around.”

The new theatre will add 60 permanent jobs to the area, in addition to about 200 construction jobs.

Total cost of construction was $15 million.
