It’s back – and this year it’s full of adventure!

The summer reading program at Airdrie Public Library starts July 2. This year’s theme, Destination Jungle, will have kids exploring the wonders of nature and the jungles of the world. You can sign up to go on exciting adventures and travel to exotic lands by exploring the shelves at your library.

Destination Jungle is a way to connect kids to reading through the summer months. The program is designed for children entering ECS to Grade 6 in the fall. Children must be five years of age by Feb. 28, 2010, to participate. The program is free, but you must have an APL library card to register.

Each participant receives a free reading kit and prizes are awarded every day. For each book a child reads, they receive an entry ballot – the more they read, the more chances they have to win. Our Jungle Base Camp will be open Monday to Thursday from 3 to 4 p.m. for everyone starting July 5. Join Madame Catherine on Mondays for French story time and get some help finding a great read from our French collection.

Destination Jungle kicks off on July 2 at 10:30 a.m. with a special performance: “School House Songs, The Music of Lee and Sandy Paley.” These two popular performers will be familiar from their Ballooner Landing TV show.

This special event is open to everyone, not just those registered in the Summer Reading Program.

Registration for this popular program begins June 21. Register in person or over the phone by calling 403-948-0600, ext. 8382. Please visit our website for more information – www.airdriepubliclibrary.ca
