Local women have the opportunity to celebrate “all things estrogen” at a two-day, ladies-only event – Just For Her: A Weekend For Women. Starting May 5 at AppleCreek Golf Course, the weekend will feature products and services from more than 60 local vendors, including fashion, cosmetics, personal services and more.

“These incredibly unique products and services have all been hand-picked by our team, and they’ll be offering event-only promotions, packages and door prizes for the weekend,” said Shaulyn van Baaren with SVB Events.

The event kicks off with a sneak-a-peek shopping experience May 5, available to women ages 18 and up. This “Ladies’ Night Out” opportunity provides extra-special treatment to women who sign up for the VIP package, van Baaren said, but all participants can enjoy being “pampered and spoiled” with appetizers, music and more.

May 6 will see the event opened to the public and all ages, with 50 per cent of the $2 admission fee going to support Airdrie P.O.W.E.R., which van Baaren said is fundraising to bring a women’s shelter to the community.

“This really is a trade show meets special event – we’ve eliminated the speaker series we had last year to really focus on delivering a ladies’ night out experience, instead,” van Baaren said. “We’ve taken a look at the demographic of women in the Airdrie area, and these days, there’s a lot going on in our lives – we’re busy.”

According to van Baaren, women tend to put themselves last, often ensuring everyone else’s needs are met before prioritizing their own. Finding the time for a night out or an afternoon of shopping can be a challenge, she said, so the Just For Her event is a chance to bring together “all things that are important to women” in one location.

“We’ve got a low-key, comfortable atmosphere where ladies can come with their besties to enjoy some food, beverages, and see what is being offered in Airdrie as far as their daily needs – clothing, jewelry, health and fitness, and other services,” she said.

Last year was the first time SVB produced the Just For Her event, van Baaren said, but drew an incredibly positive response from both women who attended and women who were hoping for an opportunity to attend in the future.

“We heard from a lot of women after the event who didn’t know about it and were disappointed they missed it,” she said. “It really showed us who we need to be talking to, in terms of our target market, and what they want to see.”
