Canada Day one to celebrate around RVC

While the country won’t be marking an exciting milestone this year, Canada Day celebrations will take hold of Rocky View County (RVC) July 1 with activities, food and fun for all ages to encourage everyone to get out and enjoy the country’s birthday.
Celebrating Canada
The whole country will be celebrating July 1, and several Rocky View County communities will be putting on events for the occasion.

While the country won’t be marking an exciting milestone this year, Canada Day celebrations will take hold of Rocky View County (RVC) July 1 with activities, food and fun for all ages to encourage everyone to get out and enjoy the country’s birthday. Chestermere will kick off the day with a free pancake breakfast at John Peake Park, with entertainment on the Pavilion Stage and games and activities for the whole family. The city will also be hosting the Trading Post Market with food vendors, as well as the Taste of Chestermere, where restaurants throughout the city will make it a meal to remember. As always, fireworks will light the sky at dusk.

Irricana

At the Founders Park Campground, the Town of Irricana will offer face painting, life-sized games and a water-balloon fight. Mason’s Lodge BBQ will be firing the grill all afternoon, and the Community Hall will be hosting the Shakehouse Band and a chili cookoff. “It’s a little bit lower-key, but we are bringing in something new,” said Tawnia Cardinale, Beiseker community services co-ordinator. “We have a local resident who puts on a Mounted Combat Arms Show. She does stunting and a lot of well-known, higher-up shows.” Residents and visitors will have the chance to watch knights on horseback and medieval archery during three different shows at the Rodeo Grounds. A movie in the park, Jumanji, and fireworks will close out the night.

Crossfield

The Town of Crossfield won’t be holding celebrations on Canada Day, but the Crossfield Farmer’s Market June 28 will take on some Canadian flair. Live music from Jodie Farr and Dustin Farr will be on-site, along with local youth who will be singing and playing ukulele, according to Eris Latham, recreation and community events co-ordinator with the Town. The market will also feature Canada Day shirts, which attendees can sport July 1 at other events around RVC. The market runs from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Crossfield Community Centre, and will offer a variety of vendors and food trucks.
