Moody’s Mediterranean restaurant opened its doors in Airdrie in December 2018 and is already claiming Best of Airdrie Reader’s Choice Gold in Affordable Eats and Bronze in both Best Lunch and Best Donair. Owner Moudie Baroud said he’s overwhelmed by the restaurant’s early success and the recognition from residents.
“Being in business for nine months and already receiving awards, is amazing,” he said. “Having people choose us as one of the Best in Airdrie, it puts us above and beyond what we expected for our first year.”
Baroud spent more than15 years in the restaurant industry before making the move to owning a restaurant.
Baroud said he and his family spent six years researching restaurant ownership, travelling to different countries and bringing home new ideas from their experiences. It was important for them to combine everything they learned, he said, to create an amazing menu of Mediterranean food.
Eventually, Baroud wants to turn Moody’s Mediterranean – located at 407-401 Coopers Blvd. S.W. – into a franchise, but said it was important to establish it in Airdrie first.
“We thought if we survive in Airdrie, if we can do it in our hometown, then we can be one of the best anywhere we can go,” he said.
In the beginning, Baroud said, issues with a contractor caught the attention of Airdronians. In that difficult time, he said, residents’ support gave him the boost he needed, and in the months since opening, he continues to experience that encouragement.
“If you become part of the community, then the community backs you up 100 per cent – that's what we found with Airdrie,” he said.
As a multiple Best of Airdrie award winner, Moody’s is certainly a welcome addition to the local restaurant scene and a favourite of local diners.
“I believe that without the community, and without the support of local businesses, it wouldn't be possible. We appreciate it,” Baroud said. “We look forward to many years of working and supporting local.”
