Mon. Mar 8: 50/50 Raffle Winner of $7,135

In honor of International Women’s Day, it is only fitting that the winner of Monday night’s draw is female and part of Alberta’s curling family. Congratulations to Carla Koe on winning $7,135 in Curling Alberta’s 50/50 Raffle.

After a late-night text from her husband, Kevin, telling her she won, Carla was definitely surprised. “I think I’ve bought 50/50 tickets for 12 years, and I love supporting it,” said Carla. “This is the first time I won. We have had a heck of a start to 2021 and this is just really a nice little turn around.”

With her two daughters curling with the Okotoks Junior Curling Academy and Kevin’s busy schedule, she has taken a step back as a curler herself, but there is an annual tradition with her sisters to play in the Bunny Bonspiel at the Crowsnest Curling Club. “It’s one of the highlights of my year,” said Carla.

As one of curling’s most formidable competitors, a key part of her husband’s success is having strong women like Carla and his daughters alongside him every step of the way. With Kevin vying for the 2021 Tim Hortons Brier championship title, Carla is holding down the fort and keeping things running at home.

“It is my pleasure,” declared Carla. “I owe a lot to curling. I met my husband curling and my two daughters love it.”
