WINNER: Lorene LaPointe $5,070
It’s playoff weekend at the Grand Slam of Curling’s Princess Auto Players’ Championship and Friday night’s 50/50 jackpot reached over $10,000. As the top eight teams advanced, others were able to leave the bubble and return home to their families, including Alberta’s Team Bottcher and Team Koe. Congratulations to both teams on an outstanding season and we look forward to seeing you back on the ice in the fall.
Congratulations are also in order for Lorene LaPointe of Gordondale, who is the winner of Friday night’s 50/50 draw. Lorene will take home the big cash prize of $5,070.
“It’s awesome. I was pretty excited. I had to keep checking my tickets at least five times to make sure it was the right number,” said Lorene.
While Lorene isn’t a curler herself, she has previously worked at the Dawson Creek Curling Club and her sister plays and volunteers. She is a bookkeeper by trade, and when she isn’t working, Lorene enjoys outdoor activities including camping, snowmobiling, and quadding.
Since early March, Lorene has been purchasing 50/50 tickets while watching all of the events from the Tim Hortons Brier to Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling, and she has no plans to stop. “I will continue to play during the Women’s World Championships too,” she laughed. We have had a two-time winner before, and we might again before this curling season comes to a close.
