CANMORE – The streets of Canmore will be ringing at 7 p.m. each evening as church bells sing out an ode to frontline workers.

Ralph Connor Memorial United Church and St. Michaels Anglican Church will ring church bells as a way to support all emergency workers, including healthcare, RCMP, EMS and Canmore Fire.

“Ralph Connor Memorial United Church on Main Street and St. Michael's Anglican Church just around the corner on 7th Street are both ringing their bells at 7 p.m. to support all the frontline workers: health care professionals at the hospital, RCMP, EMS, Canmore Fire and Rescue personnel,” wrote Jan Tissandier, a musician on staff at Ralph Connor Memorial United Church, in an email.

Across Canada communities have been honouring emergency workers who are on the frontlines during this pandemic in various ways. In Vancouver, for example, community members grace their porches, front steps, balconies or hang their heads outside of windows at 7 p.m. each evening, cheering loudly for all frontline workers.

Here in Canmore, the community is coming together – while still social distancing – in various ways. Messages of hope adorn windows and balconies and social media groups are filled to the brim with individuals offering help in various ways.

Tissandier said the bell-rining is just one more way to applaud the dedication local frontline workers are showing.

“We applaud their dedication and care for the community, and are joining the folks around town and across the country who are singing/strumming/ringing/drumming a noisy thank you at 7p.m.,” she said.
