The Alberta government is set to announce new COVID-19 measures on Tuesday afternoon

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney is slated to speak to media at 4:30 p.m. and is expected to announce new measures to help slow the spread of COVID-19 in the province.

Kenney will speak along with Health Minister Tyler Shandro, Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw and Dr. Verna Yiu, the CEO of Alberta Health Services.

The announcement comes after weeks of COVID-19 cases surging in Alberta. Caseloads have doubled in the past few weeks and on Monday the province announced 1,549 new COVID-19 cases. There were 328 Albertans in hospital with 62 in intensive care.

Overall, Alberta has 13,166 active cases, the highest number of all provinces in Canada.
