Active cases of COVID-19 continue to drop in Airdrie, with 147 reported cases on Dec. 29, down 13 from the day prior.

According to the regional status map, Airdrie has a current infection rate of 210 per 100,000 population. Since the onset of the pandemic, Airdrie has reported a total of 1,457 cases. Of those cases, 1,289 people have recovered and eight deaths have been reported. 

Outside of Airdrie, Rocky View County (RVC) is resporting 85 active cases of COVID-19, down 17 from Dec. 28. RVC's case rate is currently 196 cases per 100,000 population. 

Elsewhere in the county, Chestermere is currently reporting 58 active cases – down eight from Dec. 28 – while Cochrane is reporting 46 cases, which is seven fewer than Dec. 28.

Provincially, there has been a total of 99,141 cases in Alberta. Of those, 14,785 are considered active, 83,328 people have recovered, 890 COVID-19 patients are in hospital and 153 are in intensive care units. In total, 1,028 deaths have been reported in the province due to the virus.

During her Dec. 28 briefing, Alberta's chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw said just over 6,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine had been administered in Alberta to date. Two weeks prior, Health Minister Tyler Shandro said more than 29,000 doses of the vaccine would be provided before the end of December.

Hinshaw's next in-person press briefing on COVID-19 will be held Jan. 5. Limited data will be posted on social media each day until then, starting Dec. 31.
