Quilting enthusiasts came out in droves to the Airdrie and District Quilt Show in Balzac this weekend. 139 quilts were on display, the distinctive work of over 40 local artists sewn together over the last three years.

“We’re hoping to raise a ton of money for cancer research and survivors and everybody that has been unfortunate enough to have to deal with cancer,” he said.

“It’s not a whole lot, but being able to have those few things to open on Christmas Day means a lot for those families,” Logan said.

This Fire Prevention Week from Oct. 9 to 15, the Airdrie Fire Department is stressing the need for families to develop a home escape plan in case the worst should happen.

The local archer just returned from his first senior World Cup in Colombia in July of this year and is hoping to keep up a rigorous training regimen.

Dr. Huiming Yang, medical director for screening programs with AHS, said breast cancer is the most common cancer in women and about one in eight Canadian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.

“Having the chance to see our beautiful country from this luxurious train was breathtaking, but the real beauty for me came from friendships and connections that were made on board,” she said.
