“Jim was active in the Legion and participated in the Colour Party that honours our veterans with the Legion Tribute and for special events and Remembrance Day services,” Nicholson recalled of Shave’s service.

“It’s quite a significant day for us – I know civilians can’t quite grasp what these men and women have gone through,” Hoffman said adding some Airdrie Legion members have faced active combat.

Brooker enlisted to fight in the First World War in 1916, and soon found himself joining the Canadian Field Engineers. He served in France, Belgium, Germany, and briefly in England after the war. 

“Delaying or cancelling this project is not really an option,” Petrow stated. “This project is very overdue and it’s very necessary for this community.” 

Ever since he was a young boy, art and military service have been entwined within Airdrie-based artist and Royal Canadian Air Force veteran Bob Harriman.

There was plenty of early Christmas cheer and warmth at the Airdrie Christmas Market on Nov. 5, despite a blizzard swirling outside.

Even the animal kingdom knows winter is a time to get warm, cozy, and rest for a while.

This year’s Writer-in-Residence at the Airdrie Public Library (APL) is Calgary’s Lee Kvern.

Rocky View County resident Korae Nottveit brought home the gold medal in culinary excellence for Canada during the recent WorldSkills Competition in Lucerne, Switzerland.

“We’ve been off for the whole pandemic and haven’t had a Christmas parade since 2019, so we’re really excited to get back to what we think is a favourite tradition in Airdrie,” she said. "That’s one of our favourite ways to gather en masse to kick off the holiday season and we’re excited to do it in the way we think we do it best.”
