Upon arrival, AFD observed light grey smoke on the main level of the two-story residential home. Smoke alarms had been activated, but one resident remained in the house, attempting to extinguish the blaze with water.

Believing in the power of small businesses, Pickford said that the more successful they become, the more they are needed to help out in the community. Pickford is passionate about community involvement and wants to see Airdrie prosper.

“I think people really like to see the humans in other humans,” she said.
