Your library card is musical

Your Airdrie Public Library (APL) card carries more benefits than any other card in your purse or wallet, except maybe your Alberta Health Care card. One of those benefits is free music downloads and streaming.

Your Airdrie Public Library (APL) card carries more benefits than any other card in your purse or wallet, except maybe your Alberta Health Care card.

One of those benefits is free music downloads and streaming.

Yeah, right, you’re thinking, it’s probably free because the music is so obscure even the most knowledgeable contemporary music professor would be left dumbfounded and muttering, “Pamona Pomegranate Poppers? Never heard of such silly poppycock.”

Called Freegal, and underwritten by the Marigold Library System, it’s a free music service with access to nearly 13-million songs, including the entire Sony music catalogue.

We’re talking artists like John Legend, Carrie Underwood, P!nk and, yes, the Smothers Brothers.

There’s even some of Alberta’s best, like K.D. Lang, Paul Brandt and, of course, Ian Tyson.

Your APL card provides five free downloads per week.

Download current and classic songs in more than 30 different genres for free online or through using the Marigold mobile app.

Logging in is as easy as using the barcode on your library card and your PIN number.

There is no software to download and no digital rights management restrictions; just download your files and get that head bobbing along to your favourite tunes.

It’s easy to use and you can search by song title, artist or album and, once downloaded, the songs are yours and can be transferred to an MP3 player or iPod.

For real, you ask? Absolutely, it’s enough to make your feet do a happy dance.

But wait, we said you can also stream music.

In addition to free, daily music downloads, library patrons can access up to five hours of streaming music free of charge each day – ad free.

Users can create and save their own playlists or choose from pre-selected Freegal playlists.

For more information on APL’s e-resources or any of the library’s programs and services, visit airdriepubliclibrary.ca, call 403-948-0600 or drop by and get your free library card.
