Workshops announced for Airdrie Children's Festival

The second annual Airdrie Children’s Festival is just more than a month away, and the list of free workshops have been announced for the 2019 rendition, to be held June 1 and 2 in locations throughout the city.

Local author Katie Mackrory will share her writing expertise and talk about her experience as a novelist June 1 at the Cam Clark Ford Community Room. The event starts at 11 a.m. and will teach students how to put pen to paper to kick-off their journey as writers.

Also June 1, the Alberta model Engineering Society will present its small-scale diesel and steam locomotives and track at the Iron Horse Park, also starting at 11 a.m.

For kids who dream of being on the air, an interactive workshop with radio station AIR 106.1 FM will be held June 1 at 9:30 a.m. at the radio station’s downtown studio.

Willow N’ Wool is also holding a workshop, providing kids the chance to get some hands-on experience shaping, rolling and cutting out clay. The event starts at 1 p.m. and will be held at the Willow N’ Wool store.

Over at Nose Creek Park, "Smilin’ Rylan" will lead kids through a fun and engaging instrument-making session June 1, starting at 10:30 a.m.

Going with the musical theme, Juno Award-winning artist Peter Lenton will teach kids the song-writing process, June 2 starting at 12 p.m.

For kids who are feeling a bit peckish, the Airdrie Community Kitchen will lead a cooking workshop June 1 at the Airdrie Rotary Community Kitchen, where kids will learn how to make berry scones and burritos. The attendees will also learn about the food they eat and some important kitchen safety tips. The session starts at 10 a.m.

Kids with an artistic flair can learn art history and create their own masterpieces at the Fun With Art event, June 1 at Nose Creek Park. The event starts at 11 a.m.

Lastly, dancers from the Ambition Arts Academy will give kids the chance to get actice and learn some basic and fun elements of dance. The June 1 event will kick off at 12:30 p.m. at the Ambition Performing Arts Studio.
