One of Airdrie Public Library’s (APL) most amazing online resources is a wonderfully joyous place called TumbleBook Library. Even adults will find themselves drawn into this magical resource.

Even though TumbleBook Library is labeled “Just for kids,” so are candy necklaces, and adults like those.

Parents and your children will both find a treasure trove of animated picture books, educational videos, puzzles, games and much more. All are guaranteed to occupy those long stretches of time between when children wake up and when they go to bed.

TumbleBooks has award-winning story books from authors like Robert Munsch and Kate DiCamillo; graphic novels featuring characters including Nancy Drew, Archie, Ariol and Caillou; and a popular series by American actor John Lithgow.

There are books for early readers, nonfiction books on a variety of topics, a series on animal friends and even National Geographic videos designed for budding world explorers.

TumbleBook offers sentence games using popular children’s books – with audio – that help young readers identify and describe the various situations portrayed in the books.

Puzzle games designed to strengthen and build memory use the artwork found in many of these story books.

Another cool feature of TumbleBooks is Spanish and French language learning. From story books to graphic novels, young readers can explore popular authors and characters in another language.

Playlists are also a useful feature.

Offering an extensive catalogue of read-along videos from under 10 minutes to under 40 minutes, children of all ages can enjoy reading along to a selection of colourful and engaging fiction and nonfiction from a variety of authors. Who wouldn’t want to hear John Lithgow reading from his children’s book Marsupial Sue?

If anything, TumbleBook Library will broaden you and your child’s world through a touch of whimsy and literacy.
