Trapped in the Library

In these times of hyper-online viewing, you may have noticed that a lot of public institutions are offering virtual escape rooms or similar escape type games.

This popular pre-pandemic pastime – in which a team of players attempts to escape from a real locked room by co-operatively finding clues, solving puzzles and accomplishing tasks in order to complete a specific goal in a limited amount of time – has re-created itself online.

Libraries, museums, and even Hogwarts and Minecraft have joined in on the fun, and now, so is Airdrie Public Library (APL).

Launched May 22 on airdriepubliclibrary.ca, you can enter our “escape room” and then attempt to make your way out by solving puzzles, answering questions and learning more about your library.

Our version of the virtual escape room was inspired by the very clever one offered by the Grand Prairie Public Library (GPPL). Hailey McCullough from GPPL graciously assisted us with setting up our own escape room, and like her library’s version, we’re sure you’ll love ours as well.

Don’t worry, if you get stuck in the escape room, we won’t leave you there. Contact us at [email protected], and we’ll make sure you find your way out.

So, play it by yourself, or gather your family together and try and escape from APL!

APL is also excited about our Second Annual Poetry in Motion contest.

Like last year, the competition features two categories – Open or Youth (13-17 years of age). The winner in each category will receive an iPad, and selected poems will be displayed on Airdrie buses  September 2020 in honour of Alberta Culture Days.

Register online and attach three poems, each no longer than 11 lines, as a PDF. Registration opens June 1, and forms can be found on the APL website.
