It's been said young artists carry the dreams and ideals of a generation into the future. Airdrie Public Library (APL) is supporting the city’s arts and culture scene by providing ways to encourage or showcase this important and lively part of the community. Area musicians are invited to participate in various events, and local artists are offered enough room on our walls and in free standing cases to showcase anywhere from a dozen to 40 or more pieces. One of the more exciting ways APL provides support, is through offering local high schools year-round gallery space for young emerging artists. All year long APL features art from various high schools in The Makerspace, formerly known as The Den, and every Spring the library celebrates this exceptional artistic creativity with a High School Art Show. This year’s event is a little different from past ones, rather than holding a gala we’re hosting an evening were the public can come and meet some of these amazing young artists and their inspiring teachers. The event takes place April 3, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Three Airdrie high schools, Bert Church, St. Martin de Porres, and W.H. Croxford, will be providing a visually stunning array of work. Many of the pieces are "jaw-dropping" in their skill and creativity, according to APL's Communication Co-ordinator Wyatt Tremblay, who added viewers will "walk away feeling like the future of the Alberta art scene is secure." Everyone is invited to this drop-in event, but if you can’t wait to see the exhibit, you can view works from these students on the walls in the Library right now – until the end of April.
