RCMP invite local youth to explore policing

The Airdrie RCMP detachment hosted six local and area students May 31, as the children took part in Cops for Kids.

Students were given a tour of the detachment, participated in a mock-scenario with a constable, completed traffic stops and were shown how to investigate Criminal Code offences, such as impaired driving and theft.

“This program was created in hopes of reaching out to Airdrie's youngest citizens in a positive way by providing a reward for students who have shown excellence in academics,” read an RCMP press release.

“This was the first time this event occurred in Airdrie but members hope it will be an annual event in which kids from the area are given the chance to interact with police and are introduced to various aspects of policing."
