The City of Airdrie is celebrating Alberta Day (officially recognized Sept. 1) with a day chocked full of activities commemorating the province's 117th anniversary at Nose Creek Valley Museum. The Main Street-based facility's event is running on Sept. 3 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Each year, from Sept. 1 to 3, the Government of Alberta backs events across the province that celebrate the province's unique spirit, culture, and heritage, from live entertainment and marketplaces, to beer gardens and activities for children.
City-sponsored events planned to commemorate the day Alberta officially became a province in 1905, include a free pancake breakfast, live music from Abbey and Joe Calvert, historic storytelling, children's activities, and more.
According to a City press release, Airdronians are encouraged to enjoy all-day museum access in addition to the aforementioned programming.
Additional activities include teachings from elders and knowledge keepers from the Stoney Nakoda First Nations, photo booth by Oh Snap Photography, caricature drawings from TomToons, and children's activities including face painting, crafts, and Airdrie Festival of Lights train rides.
"Explore Alberta's history with complimentary museum access all day," read the statement. "Join members of the Stoney Nakoda First Nation to learn about their culture and history on the lands that we now know as Alberta."
To mark the province's 117th birthday, the first 117 attendees at Airdrie's Alberta Day ceremony and cake-cutting will receive a special commemorative Alberta pin, according to the City.
Donations in support of the Nose Creek Valley Museum will also be accepted during the birthday breakfast bash.
