“It’s a very fun, light and cute story about a brother and sister working as a team to create something awesome,” Burton said.

Nose Creek Players will tap into the heroic spirit of Christmas for "A Christmas Hero" on Dec. 9 and 10 at Hillside Church in Airdrie.

Nose Creek Players are thrilled to present their show “A Christmas Hero” on Dec. 9 and 10 at Hillside Church.

The Airdrie-based community theatre group's play, written and directed by Taylor Amanda Burton, asks the question of what it means to be “A Christmas Hero.”

“The play is about a boy named Aidan, (played by local performer Jack Friesen), who is trying to create a comic book about a Christmas Hero,” explains Burton. “He is kind of getting frustrated working on it, and his older sister Ryanne, (performed by Daphne Mohr), ends up helping him working on the comic book.”

Through Aidan’s journey with his sister, he discovers what it really means to be a Christmas Hero.

“To be a Christmas Hero you have to be very caring, and very mindful of those around you,” Burton explained. “I think you have to be willing to accept all those around you into your heart and into your life, and to be willing to share that Christmas spirit to be sure everyone around you is having a good time.”

Burton, who is writing and directing her fourth annual Christmas production with Nose Creek Players, said the genesis of the play came from her own writer’s block. It was through the process of working through that in collaboration with her colleagues that the play came to be in the form audiences will see on stage.

“It actually started as something different,” confirms Burton. “I pitched the title of the show before I knew what the show was … Every time Nose Creek Players’ does a Christmas show, I am very open to other ideas. So the process always becomes a very big collaboration, and things change as the process goes on. It ends up becoming all of our show.”

Burton said she could not be more thrilled with the result this year, and she hopes audiences feel the spirit of Christmas shining through strongly in the play.

“It’s a very fun, light and cute story about a brother and sister working as a team to create something awesome,” she says. “It’s funny. There are some heroes you’ll get to meet, and you will feel like you are a part of creating it if you come to the show.”
