A new pop-up market is coming to Airdrie June 22 and 23, in the form of the first Days of Summer Collective Market.
Located on the top level of the Best Western parkade, the rooftop market aims to provide families with a varied and engaging experience, according to organizer Zinzi Walters.
“It’s not your everyday, traditional farmers’ market, nor an artisan market,” she said. “We’re really about supporting the community and giving local businesses an opportunity to increase awareness that they are in Airdrie, as well.”
The market will showcase a variety of culinary vendors, including specialty cuisines and produce, alongside artisan vendors with crafts and other handmade products.
“We have a great lineup of local and out of town vendors, entrepreneurs, food trucks and musicians,” Walters said.
The market will also feature a Shimmer and Shine Dress and Greet, where kids can dress up and apply some sparkles, in an effort to engage attendees beyond vendors and food.
Several businesses will be offering free giveaways and prizes, she added. There will be a kids’ craft station, as well, and more vendors in and out of the Best Western dining hall.
Vendor spaces are still available, Walters said, and noted effort was made to keep the spaces affordable. She said she knows what a challenge financial barriers can be for vendors trying to get into a market.
This market is the first of more events to come from Walters and the other volunteers she’s working with, she said, including a free food and music festival in Crossfield, called aCROSStheFIELDs, Aug. 18. All of their events are part of “bringing different concepts into growing cities and smaller towns.”
The first Days of Summer Collective Market starts at 3:30 p.m. and ends at 7:30 p.m., June 22 and 23. Registration for the Shimmer and Shine can be done at 1stdaysofsummer.eventbrite.ca
