August is a winding-down kind of month in Alberta. We squeeze in those last few camping trips and family barbecues as the days lose their heat – days that are still sunny and clear, hinting at the coming autumn.
Here at Airdrie Public Library (APL), we begin to transition from our busy summer programming to a much-needed break for programmers.
However, summer isn’t over just yet, and there are still plenty of programs and events happening at your library.
The TD Summer Reading Club (SRC) is in its final week of exploring the World’s legends and myths for patrons in grades kindergarten to 7. If you’ve been following APL’s social media, you’ll have seen that this summer’s SRC was enchanted by fairy and folk tales, old and new, and from far and wide.
The second session of What is Roblox? will be held next Saturday at 1 p.m. Our Digital Literacy programmer will discuss the dangers and benefits of this gaming platform and what you need to know to keep your children safe.
Teen Summer Movies returns next Friday at 6 p.m., and features the new action movie, Uncharted, featuring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg.
Teens are also welcomed to join APL for three sessions in August on Teen Mental Health, held in partnership with Stepping Stones For Mental Health. Designed to give teens the tools needed to help themselves and those around them, the program runs on three Mondays – Aug. 8, 15, and 22 – at 2 p.m.
The popular monthly drop-in Senior Coffee and Conversation is on Wednesday, Aug. 10 at the Fireplace.
Also in August, the first ever Non Artist Art Night program happens for those who want to be creative, but may not feel they are particularly artistic. Designed for ages 18 and up, no skill level is required, and no critical opinion will be offered, but we’ll provide all that’s necessary to help you explore your creative side.
