Library Link: Fun ways to imagine a new library

Slated to open in 2025, our new facility will be located where the old fire hall now stands on Main Street. It will be 60,000 square feet, with an additional 25,000 square feet devoted to being a multi-use space.

Airdrie Public Library is running various programs over the next few weeks that have a special focus on the upcoming construction of Airdrie's new multi-use library.

As Airdrie Public Library (APL) settles into a new year, we are very excited about the new multi-use library facility the City of Airdrie is building for its citizens.

Slated to open in 2025, our new facility will be located where the old fire hall now stands on Main Street. It will be 60,000 square feet, with an additional 25,000 square feet devoted to being a multi-use space.

The new facility will allow us to double our collection and will provide more room and larger spaces for children, youth, teens, and adults. It will include quiet spaces, study spaces, meeting spaces, and much more.

In brief, the new facility will carry on APL’s tradition of being a community hub right in the heart of Airdrie, offering a wide variety of opportunities for citizens to gather, connect, and learn.

To celebrate this wonderful addition to our community, APL is running various programs over the next few months that have a special focus on the new facility. The first of these programs is Design a Library, Build a LEGO Library, and a special Minecraft Mayhem.

Design a Library, catered to patrons ages 12 to 17, uses the popular Tinkercad software to help participants learn about 3D design. Using the library’s laptops, you can design your own library while learning about sizing, shapes, and building design. What your own dream library looks like will only be limited by your imagination.

Build a Lego Library is a fun event where a table will be set up in the library and children can come and design and build their own library.

Minecraft Mayhem is one of our regular After School @ APL programs, but on Monday, Jan. 31, it will focus on designing and building your own Airdrie Public Library. In a private realm, participants will design and build their own unique library, or collaborate with other players to create the most amazing library ever.
