The library’s after school Fall programming launches this week.

“A new school year means new beginnings, new adventures, new friendships, and new challenges. The slate is clean, anything can happen.” – Denise Witmer, author, and freelance writer

This quote by Witmer, author of The Everything Parent's Guide to Raising a Successful Child: All You Need to Encourage Your Child to Excel at Home and School, reminds us that learning is a lifelong journey.

Here at Airdrie Public Library (APL), we seek to inspire lifelong learning, imagination and creativity through our inclusive programs, services, and collections.

Some of the ways APL does this is through school-aged collections of books, graphic novels, and programming.

Patrons can also access online eResources for their children such as CloudLibrary, Flipster, Hoopla, NoveList K-8, OverDrive/Libby, and World Book Online. These resources offer everything from multiple levels of learning to audio books to curriculum-focused fiction suggestions.

APL also has school-aged programming such as the popular LEGO Club, Listening Tales, which is held in partnership with Community Therapy Dogs Society, and After School @ APL. Supported by Kiwanis Club Airdrie Foothills, After School is a suite of four weekly programs aimed specifically at patrons aged six to 13.

Mythic Quest helps participants learns the art of storytelling through developing characters based on the Dungeons and Dragons board game.

Full STEAM Ahead focuses on science, technology, engineering, arts, and math.

There will also be a special Full STEAM Ahead hosted by the City of Airdrie's waste and recycling services team, where participants will learn how to make a craft from recycled products.

The Mindful Artist program will encourage participants to embrace their natural creativity by focusing on inspiration while creating works of art.

Lastly, the popular Tween Zone explores this age group’s creative side through themed activities, including do-it-yourself projects, crafts, games, STEAM, and much more.
