Libraries connect people

One of the values of Airdrie Public Library (APL) is the promotion of community collaboration.

Libraries, according to Rita Dove – the youngest person and first African-American to be appointed Poet Laureate Consultant by the Library of Congress – create a space for possibilities, opening avenues for personal growth and new opportunities.

“The library is an arena of possibility, opening both a window into the soul and a door onto the world,” Dove said

Connecting with the resources in our community is one way to make possibilities become realities.

APL accomplishes this in a variety of ways – by partnering with local organizations and groups, and through the support provided by donations from patrons, local businesses and service clubs.

Our programs provide patrons with a personal connection to resources and opportunities that have the potential to change their lives.

These connections join people to people, linking each other in ways that transcend the mere pursuit of knowledge, reaching instead into that realm where we enhance each other’s lives by what we each bring.

APL's collections, programs and services would not be what they are without community collaboration. Despite the current lockdown, APL continues to provide opportunities that lead to possibilities.

For instance, our website has a very helpful page called Local Resources During the COVID-19 Crisis. There, you will find links to Airdrie businesses that are still open, as well as community organizations including Airdrie Food Bank, Meals on Wheels, Airdrie and District Victims Assistance Society, Airdrie Urgent Care, Community Links and Airdrie Housing Limited.

We also continue to partner with the Credit Counselling Society and Rocky View and Wheatland Employment Services as they present webinar versions of the programs our patrons are familiar with.

Many of our popular all-ages programs are also available on our website.

Even during pandemic, libraries all over the world and right here at home continue to be places of possibilities.
