Jazz artist Ori Dagan to bring swing and swagger to Airdrie

The Rat Pack is coming to town thanks to jazz musician Ori Dagan who will be performing some of the most beloved hits of the era such as Mack the Knife, Mr. Bojangles, Sway, and My Way, at Bert Church LIVE Theatre on Oct. 22.

The Rat Pack is coming to town later this month, thanks to jazz musician Ori Dagan, who will be performing some of the most beloved hits of the era such as Mack the KnifeMr. BojanglesSway, and My Way, at Bert Church LIVE Theatre on Oct. 22.

The singer-songwriter will be accompanied by an all-star jazz trio including pianist Sheldon Zandboer, bassist Kodi Hutchinson, and saxophonist Keith O’Rourke as part of The Rat Pack Songbook show.

According to Kirstie Gallant, front of house/box office manager at Bert Church LIVE Theatre, the musician has been candid about the artists who inspire him,  including the Rat Pack trio: Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., and Dean Martin, as well as jazz innovators Ella Fitzgerald, and Anita O’Day.

“Our patrons are in for a night that honours some of the most entertaining jazz hits of the 1950s and 1960s,” Gallant said in an email statement. “[Dagan] is an artist dedicated to the art and musicality of jazz – from interpreting the standards we all know and love to singing his own original music.”

Dagan got his start performing in Toronto and eventually began touring across Canada and internationally.

Gallant added over the past year, the musician has been entertaining audiences virtually through a weekly live-streamed concert series entitles JAZZ IT UP, which has been broadcast worldwide.

“It’s really exciting for Bert Church Theatre to host an artist who holds such excitement, passion, and respect for this music and who wants to share it with as many people as possible,” Gallant said.

She added Dagan’s tasteful renditions of the classic hits will have guests “swinging and swaying” when they hear the coolest cats of the era reinterpreted.

And Dagan won’t be resorting to gimmicks or impersonations either, according to Gallant.

She added live performances engage the audience in a unique way, where they may notice aspects of the music they haven’t heard while listening in their car or streaming on their phone.

“For fans of classic jazz, or fans of other music genres, Dagan and his accompany jazz trio are sure to tickle the strings of any music lover,” she said.

In addition to the provincial mask mandate and internal enhanced cleaning measures, the theatre has also implemented the Alberta government’s Restriction Exemption Program (REP) along with the City of Airdrie’s other recreational facilities.

As such, guests and patrons of the entertainment venue who are 12 years or older will be required upon entry to show either proof of vaccination, a medical exemption letter, or a negative COVID-19 test. Guests 18 years and older will also be required to show a piece of government issued ID.
