Happy New Year from Airdrie Public Library

The arrival of a new year is always exciting, signaling new beginnings – or sometimes, a new beginning for old things.

2020 will see the return of many favourite programs at Airdrie Public Library (APL), as well as the introduction of some exciting new ones.

For instance, Play Squad – for kids three and under – is a fun drop-in playdate March 21 that will celebrate the importance of play in early childhood development.

Movement Mondays, for ages seven to 11 – in partnership with Ambition Arts – will get kids moving around.

Airdrie is hosting the 2020 Alberta Winter Games Feb. 14 to 17, and here at APL, we are all over this with three events – a chat with luge Olympian Eric Pothier, another with dietitian Kendra Chow and a Winter Games wrap-up event with representatives from various winter sports. Check out our calendar to see when each event takes place.

February and March will see three Alberta Healthy Living programs, featuring information on diabetes, blood pressure and fall prevention.

Teens get to enjoy a once-a-month Teen Friday Films night, and three Caring Tails Exam De-stress events in January with the Community Therapy Dogs Society.

For the school break week in February, we have a bevy of programs for teens and tweens, ranging from cool stuff with the Let’s Talk Science people to Edible DIY.

Of course, all your old favourites have new beginnings, like ART Saturdays, Harry Potter Day, Family Literacy Day, Tween Zone, Teen Gaming, After School @ APL, Adult Craft and Games nights, and so much more.

Now for something not old, but not entirely new, APL launched an online preschool resource selection guide in October called Great Books for Babies, Toddlers, and Preschoolers. It’s designed to help parents in choosing books for their young children by providing them a list of vetted, recommended titles. Take a few minutes to check out this amazing resource.

For more information on this and other programs and services, visit airdriepubliclibrary.ca, call 403-948-0600 or drop by at our downtown building along Main Street to pick up your free library card.
