APL holds Instagram contest for youth

Even though we’ve been around since December 1971, we here at Airdrie Public Library (APL) like to think we’re hip and modern, keeping up with the latest social trends.

Case in point: we have not one, but two 3D printers, we loan out GoPro cameras and both bathrooms have baby change tables, so nobody has an excuse to not change a few diapers.

We also like to think of ourselves as being up on social media – something you might pick up on if you follow us on Facebook, Twitter, or the photo-sharing app Instagram.

Instagram, for instance, is one of those trendy social media tools whose one billion monthly users post scads of images of themselves, their pets, the food they’re about to eat, the newest pair of shoes they’ve just bought, or just about anything that catches a person’s fancy.

Instagram is also a great way to hold themed contests, so for the month of November, APL is holding an Instagram contest for youth ages 10 and up, to give them a way to express themselves through photos.

Each week will have a different literacy-themed challenge for a chance to win an Indigo gift card, as well as surprise day-long pop-up bonus challenges to win a voucher for a free 3D-printed object of your choice from our Makerspace!

Each contest runs from Friday through Thursday, and all participants under 13 MUST have their parent’s consent.

To enter, simply snap your pic and post it with #kidsatapl, and we will announce the winners the Monday after each challenge closes.

Entries can also be sent to [email protected] with the subject ‘Kids at APL.’

The contest will be judged by our Seniors' Coffee and Conversation group, as well as library staff.

See our website for full details and complete rules.
