At the end of each month, staff from the Airdrie Public Library send the Airdrie City View a small collection of some of the titles available at the library, along with some short synopses. The titles include both adult fiction and non-fiction selections.
Here is the January 2023 submission, showcasing some of the library's books Airdrie readers can enjoy getting lost in to kick off the new year.
House in the Pines
A psychological suspense debut about a young woman still haunted by her teenage best friend's death. After learning of an eerily similar death, she must find her way back to a cabin in the New England woods, armed only with hazy memories, to finally find out the truth that has eluded her.
Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow
On a bitter cold day, Sam Masur exits a subway car and sees, amid the hordes of people, Sadie Green. He calls her name. For a moment, she pretends she hasn't heard him, but then, she turns, and a game begins: a legendary collaboration that will launch them to stardom.
Spanning over 30 years, from Cambridge, Massachusetts, to Venice Beach, California, and lands in between and far beyond, this is the story of the perfect worlds Sam and Sadie build, the imperfect world they live in, and of everything that comes after success: Money. Fame. Duplicity. Tragedy.
Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex
It was one of the most searing images of the 20 century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother's coffin as the world watched in sorrow – and horror.
As Diana, Princess of Wales, was laid to rest, millions wondered what the princes must be thinking and feeling – and how their lives would play out from that point on.
For Harry, this is his version of that story, at last. With raw, unflinching honesty, Spare is a landmark publication full of insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief.
Go-To Dinners: Make Ahead, Freeze Ahead, Prep Ahead, Easy, Assembled
Cooking night after night during the pandemic inspired Ina Garten to re-think the way she approached dinner, and the result is this collection of comforting and delicious recipes that you'll love preparing and serving.
You'll find lots of freeze-ahead, make-ahead, prep-ahead, and simply assembled recipes, as well as Ina's favourite boards to serve with store-bought ingredients that are fun to assemble and so impressive to serve.
Finally, because no meal can be considered dinner without dessert, there are plenty of prep-ahead and easy sweets that everyone will rave about.
