A local school is doing its part to feed the hungry in Alberta.

According to a school press release, students, staff and parents from Airdrie Koinonia Christian School were joined by corporate sponsors and local dignitaries May 31 to pack 10,000 meals.

On June 10 at 9:30 a.m., the school will deliver half the meals to Hope Mission in Calgary.

"Hope Mission has been providing food for Albertans in need for the past 90 years," according to the school. "The Calgary branch is located in the Forest Lawn area and the 5,000 meals that are being donated will help feed families in the neighbourhood for one month."

The donation will also be used for community dinners and lunch programs at schools.

"The donation is part of the school's Feed the Need fundraiser, which is currently receiving donations until June 14," the press release said.
