The City of Airdrie's parks department intends to open its splash park in time for Canada Day, according to representatives from the municipality.

City of Airdrie Communications Advisor Fred cheny said the municipality's parks department is aiming to open the Chinook Winds Spray Park on July 1.

“This date is tentative and is pending an Alberta Health Authority inspection/water quality test and completion of current construction,” Cheney said in an email to the Airdrie City View. “Construction was delayed because of COVID-19-related supply issues.”

The amenity will be a welcome relief on hot days like those Airdrie experienced last week, when temperatures rose above 30 C. The park is highly popular, and tends to attract visitors from as far away as Calgary.

Last year, the park was open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and had a limit of 100 people at a time, due to the pandemic. The amenity tends to stay open until late August or early September, pending the weather.

Watch for updates on the City of Airdrie's social media channels in the coming weeks to learn more about the splash park's operations in 2021.
