An Airdrie realtor is organizing a toy and turkey drive to raise donations for three local non-profits this weekend.

A trio of Airdronians want to spread some holiday cheer this weekend in the form of a toy and turkey drive.

Realtor Tim MacDonald said he, fellow Realtor Lauren Madison, and home inspector Kent Pitt are hosting the drive in the parking lot behind Community Links from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Community Links is located on Main Street in downtown Airdrie.

They’ll be stationed at the Community Links parking lot off Main Street on Dec. 3 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to accept donated turkeys and new toys. The donations will be given to Community Links, the Airdrie Food Bank, and the Airdrie 1st Club for it's Christmas Hamper Program.

MacDonald said he used to work for Community Links and is aware of the positive impact these three charities have on the community. In approaching them to inquire how he could help this holiday season, MacDonald said he was told turkeys and toys are the most sought-after donation items at this time of year.

“We know the various needs personally, and are happy we can help,” he said.

Also on Saturday, MacDonald said Santa Claus will be there to take photos with kids, and hot chocolate will be available.

Given the inflation-related struggles many families have faced this year, MacDonald said that was top of mind when considering to put on the Dec. 3 event.

“That’s one of our motivations too – just to do some extra things to try and help do our part to help people who are maybe struggling financially with all those increases with inflation and all that stuff that’s more expensive today,” he said.

“What better time of year to help out than Christmas?”
