Airdrie RCMP investigating New Year's Day structural fire at All Fitts Auto

"To all you amazing Airdronians that have reached out in our time of need, I can't even begin to thank you enough," the post read. "My day and night have been filled with tears from the loss and the love I see from this great community."

Airdrie RCMP are currently investigating a structural fire that took place at a local auto repair shop in downtown Airdrie in the early morning hours of New Year's Day.

According to an RCMP press release, both police and Airdrie Fire Department personnel responded to a report of a structure fire on Jan. 1 at 4:57 a.m. on 1st Street and Center Avenue. It was later revealed via a Facebook post, the fire occurred at Airdrie business All Fitts Auto, who announced they are now closed for renovations.

"For those that haven't heard, we had a major set back to start the new year, 17 years to the day and I'm absolutely gutted," read a post on All Fitts Auto Facebook page. "Thankfully no one was hurt and we're all safe at home."

According to the post, the cause of the fire is still unknown and investigation is ongoing, though with the "quick action" of the first responders, they were able to contain it to the front office area of the building, while the back shop is "mostly just water logged."

An RCMP press release confirmed the fire remains under investigation at this time by the Airdrie General Investigation Section.

"Let me start by giving a huge shout out to all of our amazing first responders," All Fitts Auto's post continued. "You guys are true professionals and I can't praise you enough for your quick response and containing the fire as quickly as you did. I truly appreciate each and every one of you."

A Facebook post from Airdrie Fire Chief Mike Pirie confirmed crews were on scene of a commercial building fire on New Year's Day, asking Airdronians to avoid the scene as roads were then blocked with hoses and fire crews working.

Pirie later posted an update stating the fire is under control and confined to one business with crews on scene working on hot spots the morning of Jan. 1.

"Several witnesses called in reporting the fire," Pirie's post read. "When the engine from Veterans Fire Station arrived there was heavy fire in one area of the building and smoke throughout the entire structure."

On scene to attend to the blaze were two fire engines and one ladder truck from Airdrie Fire Department as well as an additional fire engine through Crossfield Fire Deparment as mutual aid.

"The fire is under investigation and there are no damage estimates until we can obtain a full account of the business contents," Pirie's post concluded.

All Fitts Auto's Facebook post stated owners and staff are not sure how things are going to work out with the investigation or how long it might take but guaranteed to its customers it will be "back in action" as soon as possible.

"To all you amazing Airdronians that have reached out in our time of need, I can't even begin to thank you enough," the post read. "My day and night have been filled with tears from the loss and the love I see from this great community."

According to the post, other local businesses have reached out to offer their condolences and the use of their facilities until All Fitts Auto can get back on their feet.

"Customers, friends, and complete strangers texting to see what they can do to help out and make sure we are okay - you all are simply amazing and remind us of why we love this city and call it home," the post concluded.

No injuries were reported in the structural fire.
