A column about library happenings

This is one of those columns where we don’t use a lot of fancy adjectives or cleverly worded sentences, it is just information about what’s coming up.

Airdrie Public Library is closing at 2 p.m. Feb. 14, because of the Alberta Winter Games opening ceremony at City Hall at 7 p.m. Screens will be set up around the parking lot so everyone can watch, but it is winter, so dress appropriately.

Since we’re closing early, it also means that Tween Zone and Senior Coffee & Conversation are cancelled. Senior Coffee will brew up a new pot of conversation on the following Friday, Feb. 21 at 2 p.m., and Tween Zone will also hit the ground running the same day at 3 p.m.

This coming week also marks the beginning of our two-week program break from Feb. 16 to March 1, with part two of winter programs kicking off on March 2.

Don’t despair if you run out of Winter Games events to interest your children, this is also Break Week, which starts right after the Family Day holiday. According to the program guide, Break Week features “Yummy, funny, craft-y, science-y, LEGO-y programming (and more) while school’s out.”

We’re talking Level Up LEGO Club Feb. 18, Let’s Talk Science featuring Dynamic Dinos at 1 p.m. and The Bone Zone Feb. 19 at 2 p.m., Edible DIY for ages eight to 12 and a separate delectable event for ages 13 to 17 on Feb. 20. The teen-tastic Edible DIY is a drop-in program where teens can hang out, listen to music, play board games and create their own snacks (don’t worry, no cooking required).

This busy week wraps up Feb. 21 from 1 to 3 p.m. with a roundup of activities for children ages five to 13.

We apologize for the fancy adjectives and cleverly worded sentences.
