2019 Airdrie Business Awards finalists announced

Finalist for the 2019 Airdrie Business Awards have been announced.

“The Airdrie Chamber of Commerce is proud of the work that our business community does, and we are thrilled that over 200 worthy businesses were nominated for one of seven awards,” said Marilyne Aalhus, executive director of the Airdrie Chamber of Commerce, in a press release.

In 2018, the Chamber took over the lead organization of the awards and added a new award this year – the Business Innovation Award.

“We’ve added this award category to recognize businesses that demonstrate exceptional and transformative innovation and leadership in processes, products and services,” Aalhus said.

Finalists in the category include Ambition Performing Arts, Healthy Meals Made Easy Inc., Switchback Creative and Woodside Denture Centre.

The Airdrie Business Leader Award – celebrating an individual whose business ethics and philosophies extend beyond the walls of their business and have a positive impact on the community as a whole – finalists include Harpreet Niijar from Studio 150 Make Up & Esthetics, Heather Crippen from CrossFit 403, Michelle Carre of The Carre Group on Redline Real Estate, Puneet Chowdhry from Airdrie Daycare Ltd., Roland Polsfut of Techmation Electric & Controls Ltd., and Ron Zuke from Air 106.1 FM and Discover Airdrie.

In the Employer Excellence Award category finalist include Airdrie Family Eye Doctors, Optima Eyewear and Optometry, and South Airdrie Smiles. This award recognizes a business that provides the best overall place to work for employees.

The Franchise Business Award is awarded to a franchise business that allows entrepreneurs to use their strategies, business model and name. The award winner best reflects the outstanding spirit and success of the business community, has demonstrated significant achievement within the last three years and has contributed to community activities and professional associations.

This year’s finalists are Airdrie 9Round, Airdrie Maaco Collision Repair & Auto Painting, F45 Training Airdrie, Lathered Cleaning Company Inc., Oranj Fitness, and The Little Gym.

Legacy Business Award finalist include Advanced Distribution/Here’s the Scoop, Airdrie Windshield & Glass Ltd., Bob Miller Trucking Ltd., and Bow Valley Credit Union. This award honours an independently owned and operated business that has been in Airdrie for at least 15 years, and has shown sustained growth and contributions to local employment.

Finally, the Business of the Year Award is awarded to a small business (less than 50 employees) that has been in business for at least three years, actively participates in the community and best exhibits outstanding achievement in innovative practices, customer service and growth. This year’s finalists are Abe’s Modern Diner, Airdrie Puppy Pals, Ambition Performing Arts Inc., Elements Dance Co., Healthy Meals Made Easy Inc., Little Steps, and Sorso Lounge, Espresso & Wine Bar.

The winners will be announced at the Airdrie Business Awards Gala on Thursday, October 24 at Bert Church Theatre.
