Bragg Creek will be hosting the inaugural Winter in the Woods Family Festival on Jan. 29 as a fundraising effort for the Bragg Creek skating rink and the Bragg Creek Community Association (BCCA).

After a successful first Christmas production last month – A Cookie Creek Christmas – the Bragg Creek-based musical theatre company is launching a spring theatre course for youth this spring and re-introducing its cancelled 2020 production of The Wizard of Oz.

Following some relatively quiet New Years’ Eve celebrations last year, rural towns and communities across Rocky View County are ready to ring in the new year with fireworks and bonfires on Dec. 31.

Despite the considerable damage to West Bragg Creek’s trail system and ongoing clean-up efforts in the area, people have continued to flock to the popular multi-recreational area to hike, bike, cross-country ski, and snowshoe, according to Conrad Schiebel, president of Bragg Creek Trails (BCT) – the volunteer organization that builds and maintains the trail network.

Rocky View County is hoping a late spring and natural predators will help diminish a growing outbreak of spruce budworm in Bragg Creek because they will not be spraying for the insect in the coming year.

Several communities in southwest Rocky View County, including Bragg Creek, Redwood Meadows, and the Tsuu T’ina Nation, experienced high winds on Dec. 1, resulting in thousands of toppled trees, long-lasting power outages, damage to critical infrastructure, and a fatality.

According to FortisAlberta's website, an unplanned power outage occurred in the area around 11 p.m. on Nov. 30. 

The Bragg Creek Community Centre is gearing up for its annual Spirit of Christmas event on Dec. 4, including light displays, holiday markets, and “good old-fashion fun” for young and old alike.

During its annual general meeting and board election on Nov. 17, the Bragg Creek Chamber of Commerce acclaimed incumbent vice-president Sherri Olsen to take the place of current president Kathleen Burk at the Bragg Creek Community Centre.

The Swamp Donkey Musical Theatre company in Bragg Creek hosted showings of its adult comedy production Nunsense from Nov. 5 to 7. The company is now preparing for showings of its youth production, Dr. Seussical Jr., from Nov. 25 to 28.
