More people are being forced from their homes as several wildfires rage out-of-control in northern Alberta.

The Alberta government has issued an emergency alert for the Chipewyan Lake Village, about 450 kilometres north of Edmonton.

People are being asked to leave immediately because a rapidly moving wildfire is threatening to cut off access to the area.

Different fires forced evacuations in the Hamlet of Wabasca, the Bigstone Cree Nation and Northern Lights County on Wednesday.

In the High Level area, about 5,000 people have been out of their homes for more than a week because of a massive 1,500-square-kilometre fire, but crews have managed to keep the flames out of the town.

Hot, dry conditions and gusty winds on Wednesday had Alberta fire watchers warning that various blazes burning in the north could explode in size.
