Motorcyclist dies following Highway 44 collision

A Barrhead woman is dead following a Sunday-afternoon collision between a motorcycle and car in Northern Alberta.

The scene just after 3 p.m., June 19, after a motorcycle and car collided on Highway 44 in front of the Westlock County Industrial Park. The driver of the motorcycle, a 54-year-old woman from Barrhead, was declared dead at the scene.

WESTLOCK, Alta – A Barrhead woman is dead following a Sunday-afternoon collision between a motorcycle and car on Highway 44 just in front of the Westlock County Industrial Park.

Westlock RCMP Staff Sgt. Al Baird said they received the call just after 2:25 p.m., June 19, that a car heading south on Highway 44 that turned left into the cemetery (Township Road 594) collided with a motorcycle travelling north. The 54-year-old female driver of the motorcycle, who hails from Barrhead, died at the scene, while the driver of the car, a woman from the Westlock area, was taken to hospital as a precaution and later released.

Baird, noting the highway was closed for hours as a collision analyst was called in, said the crash remains under investigation.
