EDMONTON — Alberta's police watchdog is investigating a deadly crash that happened after a police pursuit in Edmonton.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team says officers were attempting to pull over a black Honda Accord with a suspicious licence plate in the city's downtown Tuesday night.

It says the car failed to stop and there was a chase.

ASIRT says a supervisor ordered officers to stop the pursuit, and a short time later there was a crash between the car and another vehicle on the Walterdale Bridge.

The driver of the Honda, a 33-year-old man, died at the scene.

A 29-year-old passenger in the car remains in hospital and the driver of the second vehicle was treated and released.
