A 33-year-old Rocky View County man is dead following a motor vehicle collision in Springbank on Oct. 11.
According to a press release from Cochrane RCMP, crews from the detachment, Redwood Meadows Emergency Services, Rocky View County Fire Services and Emergency Medical Services responded to a 911 call about a serious motor vehicle collision between a semi-tractor and an SUV at 9:17 p.m. The collision occurred on Highway 8, just east of Range Road 40.
"The preliminary investigation indicates that the SUV was eastbound when it pulled out to pass another vehicle and subsequently was struck by a westbound semi-tractor," the release stated.
The 33-year-old male driver from Rocky View County – the lone occupant of the SUV – was pronounced deceased at the scene.
According tot he release, the 63-year-old driver of the semi-tractor, who is from Chilliwack, B.C., sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local area hospital.
Following the incident, traffic on Highway 8 was diverted between Highway 22 and Range Road 34 for approximately four hours while Cochrane RCMP, along with an RCMP Collision Reconstructionist, completed an on-scene investigation for the cause of the collision.
No charges are anticipated, according to the press release, and the name of the deceased will not be released.
